Eating to support your gut not only aids digestion but can also weight management, your energy levels, skin and your mood.
Each of us have our own individual gut microbiome. This helps explain why one food might trigger symptoms of irritation for one person but not for another.
Whilst there are many foods that may irritate our gut, there are a range of nutrient rich foods which can support it and keep our gut microbiome thriving.
Our nutritionist Marie-Louise explains some of these below:
Probiotics are live microorganisms which confer a health benefit on the host. Evidence shows that maintaining a healthy gut is crucial to good health. Although probiotic supplements can prove to be beneficial in certain circumstances, they are not always necessary. This depends on your health status, your food intake and your environment.
Some foods naturally contain probiotics including kefir, sauerkraut and live yoghurt.
Prebiotics aren’t talked about as much as probiotics, however they are equally as important.
Prebiotics act as food for probiotics as they feed the “good” bacteria in your gut so that they can exert their beneficial effects.
They can be found in a range of different plant foods including leeks, onions, green bananas and garlic.
A more diverse gut microbiome is associated with better health.
Aiming to eat a new fruit/ vegetable each week is a great way to increase your variety of plant based foods. Looking at your plate and filling it with a range of different colours is also a good way to increase your variety as the more colours you have on your plate, the more diversity. As mentioned, plant foods contain prebiotics and fibre which are beneficial to our gut bacteria so by consuming a larger variety- more gut microbes are supported.
Plant-based foods include nuts, seeds, fruit, legumes and vegetables.
Omega 3 fatty acids:
Omega 3 fatty acids are well known for their anti-inflammatory effects in the body. They have been shown to improve cardiovascular health, skin health and brain function. More recent research shows associations between increased intake of Omega 3 with improved gut health and mental health.
Omega 3 is found in oily fish, avocados, pecan nuts and chia seeds.
Omegabiocell369 is our new 100% plant based Omega 3, 6 and 9 supplement.
The Omega 3 present in fish has declined over the years. Alongside this, the conversion rate of plant based Omega 3 α-linolenic acid (ALA) into eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) is very low, making it difficult to obtain substantial amounts of Omega 3 from food alone.
Omegabiocell369 is created using a unique patented bio ester technology. This provides the essential fatty acids as ethyl esters as opposed to triglycerides. These are much more easily absorbed to other Omega supplements which present the essential fatty acids as triglycerides. Omegabiocell369 goes through a 4 step purification process, leaving 100% ultra pure ethyl esters of Omega 3, 6 and 9 which are more easily absorbed by the cells and stay in the cells for longer, exerting their health benefits for longer.
Add 5ml of Omegabiocell369 daily to table ready foods such as overnight oats, hummus or salads for an additional health boost.
